Indian Head MassageWhat is Indian Head massage?

Indian Head Massage is a natural, complementary therapy derived from an ancient Indian daily ritual of head massage from mother to daughter. It’s part of the Ayurveda system of healing (translated as “science of life”) which has been practised in India for over a thousand years.

Benefits of Indian Head Massage

Indian head massage is a very effective treatment to

⦁ Reduce stress and tension
⦁ Aid relaxation
⦁ Restore balance to the body’s natural systems
⦁ Detoxify and provide relief from a wide range of common complaints

The massage techniques used reduce muscle tension and encourage the removal of toxins whilst work on pressure points helps relieve nervous tension and stress.

By helping to rebalance the body, provide effective relaxation and elicit a feeling of well-being, Indian head massage is seen as a great natural treatment for a variety of emotional and physical ailments. Indian head massage is an effective alternative treatment for depression and for emotional healing as it releases endorphins that make you feel more relaxed and rejuvenated; this can also help with insomnia and sleep-related problems.

Common complaints treated with Indian head massage

Indian head massage is excellent in the treatment of neck and shoulder aches resulting from poor posture or sitting at a computer all day, and is used by many businesses to reduce the amount of staff time off due to illness resulting from these complaints.

Indian Head Massage is particularly effective in the treatment of: sinus problems, headaches and migraines, neck and shoulder pain, poor circulation, stress, anxiety, depression, fatigue, hair and scalp conditions and tension.  It can also be used a wonderfully relaxing pick-me-up if you just need some time to yourself or as a stress relief from a hectic lifestyle.

Who can enjoy Indian Head Massage?

As with all hands-on holistic therapies, Indian head massage may not be suitable for everyone and certain medical conditions may prevent the use of this treatment, or may require your GP’s consent.  A full consultation will be carried out before your first treatment which enables us to ensure that Indian head massage is right for you.  Please feel free to call or email us if you would like to check your suitability before the treatment.

What happens during an Indian head massage treatment?

The treatment is carried out on a specially designed massage chair to give you the ultimate comfort throughout your treatment. Indian head massage can be performed fully clothed or partially clothed depending on your preference.  A plant-based massage oil will be applied to your skin (unless fully clothed) to help nourish and allow free flowing massage techniques.  A treatment usually involves the upper back, shoulders, upper arms, neck, scalp and pressure points on the face, although this can be adapted to suit your individual requirements or preferences.

After-care Advice

Indian head massage has a very detoxifying effect on the body and you can encourage this by drinking plenty of water and avoiding caffeine, nicotine and alcohol for the next 24 hours.  Also try to avoid any strenuous exercise for 24 hours following treatment and try to rest and allow your body to heal from within.
